भरम मेरा

न मिलती तुम मुझसे
कर देती कोई झूठा वादा
रह जाता भरम मेरा ।१।

बचा कर दामन अपना
कर दिया मुझको मशहूर
क्या कम है करम तेरा ।२।

जलाकर सपने सभी
अब पहचान पाया हूँ मैं
मिज़ाज है गरम तेरा ।३।

ऐसी भी क्या रंजिश जो
तड़पता देख कर मुझको
आनंद है चरम तेरा ।४।

सहकर सारे ज़ख्म अमित
नहीं किया शिकवा कभी
यह तो है धरम मेरा ।५।

  1. I like the use of the word ‘Mash-hoor’, when poets normally use ‘ruswa’. Again, something for me to ponder about – how we make monsters of people in our imagination …

    1. ‘Mash-hoor’ goes better with the next line… hence, this particular choice of words… As to making monsters of people in imagination, Wasim Barelvi offers a different perspective on it in this couplet:

      मोहब्बत में बुरी नीयत से कुछ सोचा नहीं जाता
      कहा जाता है उसको बेवफा, समझा नहीं जाता

    I wish you hadn’t met me
    just spoken a sweet lie
    to keep my illusions

    and gave me fame

    my dreams burnt-
    I realize – your temperament
    causes explosions

    why the grudge?
    seeing me suffer
    gives you effusions
